August Book Haul!
So, I’ve been wanting to get new books to read during my free time, and I got my hand on these lovely ones!
First in the list; the three first books of The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.
City of Bones
Clary Fray is seeing things: vampires in Brooklyn and werewolves in Manhattan. Irresistibly drawn to the Shadowhunters, a secret group of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons, Clary encounters the dark side of New York City—and the dangers of forbidden love.
City of Ashes
Haunted by her past, Clary is dragged deeper into New York City’s terrifying underworld of demons and Shadowhunters—but can she control her feelings for a boy who can never be hers?
City of Glass
Amid the chaos of war, the Shadowhunters must decide to fight with the vampires, werewolves and other Downworlders—or against them. Meanwhile, Jace and Clary have their own decision to make: should they pursue the love they know is forbidden?
I saw the movie because it has Lilly Collins in it. It was a bit confusing, and not that much interesting (?) I didn’t watch the whole thing, and I long forgot about it—I didn’t know it was adapted from a book. Then, I figured it was, in fact, a book. I looked it up, and turns out it’s a great book. Lots of reviewers said it was great. I’m a fan of Sasha from abookutopia on YouTube, and she’s a hardcore fan, and said lots of good things about the series, she got me excited to read it.
Second book/s: the Peculiar Children series, by Ransom Riggs.
Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of peculiar photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores it’s decaying bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that Miss Peregrine’s children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.
Hollow City
September 3, 1940. Ten peculiar children flee an army of deadly monsters. And only one person can help them—but she’s trapped in the body of a bird. The extraordinary journey that began in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children continues as Jacob Portman and his newfound friends journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. There, they hope to find a cure for their beloved headmistress, Miss Peregrine. But in this war-torn city, hideous surprises lurk around every corner. And before Jacob can deliver the peculiar children to safety, he must make an important decision about his love for Emma Bloom. Like it’s predecessor, this second novel in the Peculiar Children series blends thrilling fantasy with vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience.
These books’ covers are really extravagant and eye-catching. I bought them the second I saw them, and then I felt familiar with Ransom’s name and it clicked to me that he was my favorite author, Tahereh Mafi’s husband! Well, these two are brilliant. However, the series is now adapted to be produced into a movie, which I’m so freaking excited about. I’m so hooked to this series, I’m halfway through the first book, and I can’t wait to get done with it!
Third book/s: the Jenna Fox Chronicles, by Mary E. Pearson.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox
A girl wakes from a coma following a devastating accident, her memory a blank. One day she can’t walk; the next she can. One day her eight eyelid droops; the next it doesn’t. her parents call her recovery a miracle – but at what cost has it come? What are they hiding from her? Who is Jenna Fox?
The Fox Inheritance
Once there were three. Three friends who loved one another—Jenna, Locke, and Kara. And after a terrible accident destroyed their bodies, their three minds were kept alive, spinning in a digital netherworld. Even in that disembodied nightmare, they were still together. At least at first. When Jenna disappeared, Locke and Kara had to go on without her. Decades passed, then centuries. Two hundred and sixty years later, they have been release at last. Given new, perfect bodies, Locke and Kara awaken to a world they know nothing about, where everyone they one knew and loved is long dead. Everyone—except Jenna Fox.
Fox Forever
Locke Jenkins has some catching up to do. After spending 260 years as a disembodied mind in a little black box, he now has a perfect new body. But before he can move on, he’ll have to return the Favor he accepted from the shadowy resistance group known as the Network. Locke is charged with infiltrating the home and life of seventeen-year-old Raine, the privileged daughter of a government official. Completing this mission will plunge Locke into an underground world he didn’t know existed and will require him to do things that go far beyond simple “Favors” as he is pulled farther away from Jenna Fox, deeper within the Resistance—and into Raine’s life.
Also, the covers of these books have drowned me in. the puzzle thing and the focused eyes, I had to get them. Although, it sounded like a stereotype when I first read the summery of the first book, like, I have already expected what gonna happen at the bit end, the first few chapters have changed my mind completely about it.
Fourth book/s: the four books of Sisterhood series, by Ann Brashares.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Once there was a pair of pants. Just an ordinary pair of jeans. But these pants, the Traveling Pants, went on to do great things. This is the story of the four friends—Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen—who made it possible.
The Second Summer of the Sisterhood
With a bit of last summer’s sand in the pockets, the Traveling Pants and the sisterhood who wears them—Lena Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen—embark on their second summer together.
Girls in Pants
It’s the summer before the sisterhood departs for college…their last real summer together before they head off to start their grown-up lives. It’s the time when they need their Pants the most.
Tibby: Learns that the Pants have always known what she hasn’t about Brain, and clings to them tightly – while others around her leap headfirst.
Carmen: Needs all the Pants magic possible, now that she’s agreed to watch Lena’s cranky Greek grandmother for the entire summer. Not to mention that she’s pretending to be someone she’s not – to someone who could really matter…
Lena: Wishes the Pants could tell her whether going to art school is the dream she should follow, even if it means her family won’t support her.
Bridget: Is especially glad to have the Pants at soccer camp when she finds out who her fellow coach is.
Forever in Blue
With unraveled embroidery and fraying hems, the Traveling Pants are back for one last, glorious summer.
Lena: Immerses herself in her painting and intoxicating summer fling, fearing that the moment she forgets about Kostos will be the moment she sees him again.
Carmen: Falls under the spell of a sophisticated college friend for whom a theatrical role means everything and the heritage of the Pants means nothing.
Bridget: Joins a dig for an ancient city on the coast of Turkey and discovers that her archaeology professor is available in every way except one.
Tibby: leaves behind someone she loves, wrongly believing he will stay where she has left him.
I watched the movie before, and I was a freak about it. I really adored the girls’ friendship, I just never read the series. Now, I got my hand on them, which I know it gonna be an exciting experience to reread what had happened to these four girls.
Last book; the epilogue of the Shatter Me series, by Tahereh Mafi.
Ignite Me
Everyone Juliette cares about may be dead. Now Juliette is the only one standing in The Reestablishment’s way. But to take them down, as well as Anderson, the man that nearly killed her, Juliette needs the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew – about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam – was wrong.
I saved the best for the end! I finally got my hand on this book, I waited for long to get it. I read the first two books without a break and it felt empty waiting for the epilogue. I’m really curious and excited to see the interaction between Warner and Juliette, and I want to see how they’ll take down the Reestablishment.
So these are the books I’ve got, hopefully I’ll read them all and let you see my thoughts about them. I’m mostly excited about the Sisterhood and Ignite Me, these are the best books I’ve got for this haul.
Enjoy your day, and be weird
Bye!
